Jon Cuevas

Jon has always been a very active individual. He found success early on running track, and then found a passion in competitive basketball and lacrosse. In High School, he got into weight training for sports and recollects the enjoyment of it. Despite his love for basketball, he pursued an interest in lacrosse and was awarded rookie of the year his first vear of playing. As a Senior he became the all time scorer in the state and received the Player of the Year award.

While serving an LDS mission in Argentina he was introduced to Wing Chun Kung Fu and began practicing immediately after, where he met his wife. After early years of marriage and children, he began gaining weight and losing the strength he once had as a more engaged athlete, even despite playing on an occasional city basketball league. With a family history of heart disease, health became a concern and reignited an interest to get back into shape, mainly through running and calisthenics.

This quickly transformed into a passion for long distance trail running.

Over time he placed in several races, but after some years began dealing with chronic illness week after week. Something was wrong, yet stubbornly he continued to train through brief windows of health. After canceling multiple races time and time again he eventually became even more sick. A frustratingly long experience with doctors and specialists could find nothing wrong. Finally, an intuitive ENT ran an allergy test and noted an allergy to cow's milk and whey. This had never been an issue before, but all his whey-based protein shakes and bars had in fact been destroying his immune system.

This revelation changed everything. After removing whey from his diet, the chronic sickness went away and his immune system began healing again. Jon approached running more conservatively and returned to weight training, discovering a new interest in functional fitness and nutrition. With a passion for learning, he researched all he could on the topics and quickly certified in Nutrition and then Fitness Training.

Currently, Jon works full-time as a Software Engineer and loves to help train others part-time. He has coached in nutrition for three plus vears and specializes in lower body and core strength training. Over 10 ears of experience trail running, strength training, and overcoming a multitude of injuries and illness, has instilled a knowledge and desire to assist others with their own health and fitness goals.

A Wing Chun Kung Fu practitioner for over 22 years now, he also plays piano, guitar, and programs synthesizers - and loves to compose and produce music whenever he can. He recently started a gluten free cooking Youtube channel called DaddyCan YouMake. He also enjoys video games with his wife Jenny and four kids, and resides in Saratoga Springs.
